Though I am a fan of pre-Frusciante, I understand fully why others don't. And yes, I realize that a lot of the new stuff on the radio sounds rehashed, but you can't blame the band - they do make "different sounds", the radio just doesn't like playing them! It doesn't seem logical for RHCP to say "no, you can't play Dani California" when the DJ's refuse to play 7 minute long unknowns like Venice Queen or Animal Bar. Like when Green Day did Warning and got panned. People say they want diversity from a band, and then piss on them when they comply. Oh and By The Way is my favorite album of all time. Period. I like the darkness and the emptiness that hangs over the album, even though it's everyone else's least favorite.

I think they sort of "anti jumped the shark" myself. I'm not a fan of their early stuff with Hilel Slovak (out of a few isolated songs like "Behind the Sun" or whatever), but they found themselves with Frusciante.

Californication - what a stunning come-back album! Everything since - utter shite. They're just U2 with muscles now.
